Deadline to submit and Run from the Floor: Saturday, November 15th @ 12pm

Running for Office Step by Step
 
  1. Submit an Application
  2. Your application is reviewed by the N&E Committee. You will be informed directly of the result.
  3. Pre-slated candidates may begin campaigning at the start of Convention Friday, November 14th.
  4. Candidates running from the floor may begin campaigning after their application is approved and their name is added to the slate.
  5. All candidates attend the Saturday, November 15th, Mandatory Candidate Briefing at 12:30pm.
    1. CNSA VP, Brooke Skiera, will explain the next steps and answer any questions you may have about the election process, HOD, and nominations.
  6. Saturday Parliamentary Briefing session will explain how the House of Delegates will operate.
  7. In the House of Delegates, the chair will call for nominations from the floor. All candidates running from the floor must be nominated by a member during this time.
    1. Nomination Script: "Madame President, I nominate _____ from _____ for the office of _____. She/He/They have consented to serve."
  8. All candidates will be assigned a 1 min slot to give a speech during the House of Delegates (Candidates running for the office of President will have 2 mins to speak). A short Q&A will follow, time permitting.
  9. At the close of the House of Delegates meeting on Saturday, instruction will be given on how to access electronic ballets.
  10. The election be conducted using electronic balloting software. All delegates will have a 12 hour window to vote online. If a majority vote is not reached a second ballot may be sent during the Sunday House of Delegates.
  11. All elected board members are required to stay after convention for a Board Meeting and business lunch.

Campaigning Rules & Procedure:

Pre-slated Candidates 

Those who submit their applications by the deadline are subsequently notified that their applications are complete will be considered pre-slated on the ballot by the Nominations and Elections Committee and:

  • Need not be nominated from the floor.

  • Be permitted to begin campaigning following the announcement of pre-slated candidates on Friday at the House of Delegates Parliamentary briefing session.

  • Have photo and name listed in the CNSA Convention App under the Candidates section.

  • Maintain campaign materials to a maximum value of forty dollars.

Campaign Policy

Campaigning may begin after a candidate has been notified by a member of the Nominations and Elections Committee that all papers are in order and the candidate’s name has been added to the slate board posted at convention. Elected or appointed members of the CNSA Board of Directors shall not wear any campaign material or actively support any candidate. Exceptions will be made for board members running for office, who may wear their candidate ribbon at all times.

Candidate Budget

Candidates are limited to personally spending the following amounts on campaign materials: for pre-slated candidates a maximum value of forty-dollars and candidates running from the floor are limited to a maximum value of twenty-five dollars. Candidates may be asked to submit an accurate account to the Nominations and Elections Committee Chair before posting or distributing material.

Candidate Code of Conduct  

Integrity and standards will be used to maintain absence of false, derogatory, and libelous statements.  There shall be no mention of any opponent for office in any candidate’s campaign literature.

  • No material is to be nailed, tacked, taped or stapled to the walls or placed on glass. Painting or other permanent marking or defacing of property is not permitted.

  • No campaigning may take place within fifty feet of the polls.

  • No campaign material of any type may be within fifty feet of polls on Election Day.

  • Each candidate is responsible for the removal of her/his campaign materials. 

  • There shall be no campaigning before the convention by individual candidates.

  • All campaign regulation violations must be reported to the Nominations and Elections Committee Chair who shall be responsible for investigation of all violations.

  • The CNSA Board of Directors shall take the necessary action against violators.

  • Any violation of the campaign regulations by any candidate or campaign manager may result in the candidate being removed from the ballot by the Board of Directors upon recommendation from the Nominations and Elections Committee. To report a violation please email [email protected].
