Image of Nursing Committee Goals

1.Establish Image of Nursing as a position on the CNSA State Board of Directors in 2010

a. Rationale:

• There is a need for an Image of Nursing position in California in order to educate nursing students on how to portray a positive image of nursing
• There is an ION position on the national level of NSNA
• There are instances in the media/television where nurses have been portrayed poorly and the public along with nursing students needs to be educated about how to portray a positive image of nursing

b. Plan:

• Research how the national position was established and contact the national ION director for advice and/or tips
• Research and establish petitions against television shows where nursing is negatively portrayed in order to provide support for the need of an ION position

2.Develop a presentation about the Image of Nursing to present at CoCR meetings

a. Rationale:

• To educate the constituency of CNSA about the image of nursing

b. Plan:

• Create a presentation/powerpoint that can be presented at CoCR meetings in February 19-20 2010 in southern California and June 11-12 2010 in Northern California

3. Establish a project about the image of nursing that can be implemented throughout the state of California based on the NSNA Image of Nursing Goals-The Ripple Effect of Nursing

a. Rationale:

• Creating a project that can be used/implemented throughout the state of California will help spread a positive image of nursing to students and the public

b. Plan:

• Use the national planning guidelines for image of nursing projects to help create a project to implement throughout the state
• Communicate with the national director about image of nursing projects that have been successful in the past and build off of those ideas

4. Publish articles in the CNSA Newsletter- Range of Motion

a. Rationale:

• Writing an article that will be published in the CNSA newsletter will help to spread the image of nursing throughout the state of California

b. Plan:

• Research a specific area of the image of nursing and write an articles
