My name is Shannon Murphy, and I am honored to serve as your 2011-2012 CNSA President! 
I will graduate in May of 2012, and hope to work in Neonatal Intensive Care.  I am passionate about personal growth and leadership, and strive to impact, empower and inspire others to find their passion, and grow beyond their dreams.  

I never thought I would become a nurse or a leader, and have found my voice thanks to the guidance and encouragement of those around me. I believe in taking every opportunity, because you never know where that open door may lead you!  
My ultimate goal is to be transparent and accessible to everyone, and connect you with people who can help you on your

Goal #1 – Active representation of nursing students within the California Action Coalition.
 -  The Institute of Medicine Report on the Future of Nursing names seven recommendations to be implemented by 2020, and the California Action Coalition works to implement these recommendations in California. Active involvement of students in the California Action Coalition is necessary for the success of these recommendations, and ultimately the future of the nursing profession. Understanding the IOM Report on the Future of Nursing is key to upholding our responsibility to be patient advocates throughout our careers, and to continue to push the boundaries for our own
career paths. CNSA will:
o  Have at least one board member acting as a student representative for each recommendation workgroup.
o  Involve any interested CNSA member in the California Action Coalition workgroups.
o  Disseminate  information regarding the Future of Nursing report to CNSA members after each California Action Coalition meeting.
 
Goal #2 – Increased mentorship of local chapters.
-  Communication with local chapters increases CNSA’s effect on students, communities and the profession of nursing.  CNSA will:
o  Compile an accurate list of contact information for each chapter.  CNSA will encourage use of general email addresses
(ex. uclacnsapresident@gmail.com) to be passed down from year to year to facilitate communication.
o  Make all contact information available at cnsa.org to allow contact between local chapters.
o  Connect local level board members with the CNSA officer who shares similar responsibilities.
 
Goal #3 – CNSA acknowledgement at NSNA convention
-  CNSA is an outstanding organization whose activities deserve recognition.  CNSA will: 
o   Increase awareness of available NSNA awards to local chapters via email and website.
o   Encourage chapters with known exceptional contributions to apply for appropriate awards.
o   Be available for consultation for chapters who need assistance with applications.
