I can’t begin to tell you how thrilled I am to be able to bring California together through the written word.

I was born and raised in San Diego, and moved up to Humboldt County for several years of “life-expanding experience”. I discovered many things that took my interest away from school, and spent a lot of time working three jobs just to make ends meet. I did notice that my favorite jobs included those in which I could really help people. I also noticed that I was one of few people who remained calm in situations that involved stabbings or seizures or any sort of medical crisis. I also learned a lot during my time in the Navy Reserves, such as leadership, prioritizing, and how to do that cool thing called an “About Face”.

I originally went back to school at the ripe ol’ age of 32 to work on a degree in Kinesiology. When my beloved grandmother was admitted to hospice care, I really noticed how the nurses not only cared for her, but for our family as well. The day she
passed will be forever carved into my memory, just for the absolute and heartbreaking love that was in the room that day. I changed my major to nursing just a few weeks later, and plan to work in hospice. It is an enormous blessing and honor to be with people as they transition. My future plan is to work in Med-Surg for a year or so, then return for my DNP so I can really work in hospice at a level in which I can affect change.

When I don’t have my nose in a book, I love spending time with family, friends, the boyfriend (Troy), and my two furballs who have this amazing ability to distract me simply by planting themselves in the middle of whatever it is I’m trying to work on. I love those kitties, though; they help keep me sane. I love camping, roaming the city, and creative writing.

Goal # 1: To make certain the website is up-to-date and functional.
Plan: Check emails often in order to be knowledgeable of all current and future events.  Redesign the website and update contacts as well as information from previous years. Develop the website as a central location for California nursing students to find information and network.

Goal #2: To have all board members as well as more constituents contribute to the Range of Motion newsletter.
Plan: Send out reminders before the deadline, and  follow up on those that have expressed interest in writing articles. Encourage the membership as well as the board members to advertise this opportunity to their prospective chapters and send out a reminder in the monthly email blasts.

Goal #3: To use the website to post more information geared at helping new chapters form and existing chapters improve themselves.
Plan: To work with other members of the Board of Directors to develop an FAQ on how chapter Board Members can improve their chapters.
