Brandy Azevedo Vice President vicepresident@cnsa.org |
My Name is Brandy Azevedo and I am in my third semester of the Nursing program at California State University, Sacramento. Unlike many past and current student nurses, I did not want to be a Nurse growing up. I have always had a passion for learning and I strive for as much knowledge as I can soak up. I believe when I was in the second grade I wanted to be a teacher, but that quickly changed when I discovered The Learning Channel. I was introduced to the medical field and became thoroughly engrossed in it. Of course, at the time, I thought the only way I would have an impact in patient care was to be a physician, and so my dream changed from being a teacher to becoming a doctor. I grew up in several different cities within Solano County (Northern California) and when I graduated Vanden High School, I left for University of California, Davis, where I majored in Biology and planned on applying to medical school. I spent two years there and joined a pre-medical organization; my experiences during this time opened my eyes to the truth of patient care and patient advocacy, and I ultimately realized that I did not want to be a physician, but I really wanted to be a Nurse. I spent 2003-2006 working full-time and completing my prerequisites for nursing school. During this time, as well as going to school, I had many jobs, including Camp Medic for a Boy Scout Camp and Assistant Manager for Starbucks Coffee Company in Fairfield. In fall of 2006, I transferred to California State University, Sacramento and began my first semester in the nursing program. It was during my orientation to the program that I was introduced to the CNSA organization. I met the other CNSA members of my school and participated in chapter activities. In the fall of 2007, I became the Level I Undergraduate Committee Representative and I have actively participated in all CNSA functions as well as attended faculty meetings. Today, I live in Suisun City and I work part time at Sutter Solano Medical Center as an Infant Hearing Screener for their Wellborn Unit. I’m excited to have been elected the CNSA Vice President. I know this year is going to be amazing and I am looking forward to all the fantastic upcoming CNSA events! |
